Message from our Minister
It is with a great sense of joy that I introduce you to Claremont Methodist Church (CMC) with the help of a handful of key information bites. My hope is that you will be inclined to pay us a visit in order to see for yourself, or at least to be encouraged in your own faith journey wherever you are.
Who we are
Claremont Methodist Church has prevailed through thick and thin for over 100 years. We have successfully combined two styles of doing Church namely, Traditional and Contemporary. This is beautifully depicted in the design of the Church Sanctuary, which in 2003 was enlarged and adapted to accommodate the challenges of our present age. It is further depicted in the fact that we cater to Traditional and Contemporary styles of worship. We offer a willingness to keep up with the times together with the rich heritage of our Methodist Tradition.
Where we are
Claremont Methodist Church is situated in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, strategically located near the Cavendish Square Shopping Mall, the Newlands Rugby and Cricket Stadiums, and near Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. We are at 22 Cavendish Rd, Claremont, Cape Town.
Our major strengths
Claremont Methodist Church is an inclusive Church that welcomes all. This is not an exclusive club that exist solely for those who are worthy. We aim to bring people into an experience of God’s grace that forgives and transforms lives. We have a ministry that makes this their primary focus - “Outsiders”.
CMC is also a place where people can get involved. It is not a place where a skilled few do church for the consumerist rest. Willingness and Faithfulness are valued here.
In our tradition, our unity is not dependent on uniformity. There is room for people of different ages and cultures. People are treated like adults and are allowed to think for themselves so that they learn to take responsibility for their own spiritual journey.
Claremont Methodist Church has always had a heart for mission and outreach. We support a missionary in Bosnia and other local missionaries. We encourage and facilitate short-term mission trips to Ingwavuma and Mozambique. We have Social Impact ministries that address local needs in the areas of Housing, Early Child Care Development, and HIV/AIDS. We believe that the Church exists for those outside of her boundaries and are intent on demonstrating this through our practices.
Unique aspects of our Church culture
We are very much a sending church - many of our young adults end up in other parts of the country or the world after concluding their studies at the local university and many of our people spend some time in mission.
We are also very much an empowering church - our people are given the freedom to serve God according to His call on their lives and their passion and gifts. We like our Leaders to have a sense of call to Leadership.
Conclusion
For me personally, it is a great privilege to minister at Claremont Methodist Church. The congregation is full of very capable people who have a deep love for the Lord and serve in extraordinary ways. Their commitment to the faith journey has been an inspiration to me. I hope you will pay us a visit.
