HISTORY OF CMC
In the 1980’s Peter Grobler put CMC on the map with his charismatic preaching but left under very painful circumstances. Bill Blakeway succeeded him and was faced with facilitating the healing of those who had been left behind.

John Stack served Claremont for 9 years after this, during which time the social impact ministries, including the Habitat project, went from strength to strength. The year before Mark Wiemers arrived, CMC set out a 3 pronged ministry as its vision: youth, cell groups and social impact. There were pastors who each had portfolios for areas of the church work, which included welcoming, discipleship, equipping and serving.

Mark has been at CMC for eight years and there have been many changes of lay pastors during this time. Mark has seen the church through the period of the building alterations when services were temporarily held across the road. There have also been trips to Mozambique and Ingwavuma, an Outsiders ministry and a number of church camps.

By the end of 2005, church leadership captured the vision of ERUPT: Evangelism, Relationships, Unity, Prayer & Teaching. However there were issues that distracted the church from this vision and so it wasn’t until later that the church body began to fully engage with their role in carrying it out.

Since then, God has taken us on a journey that we could not have planned and there have been many challenges. However, through the changes, ministries continue to thrive and it is clear that the remaining members of CMC have not lost their heart for God’s service. We believe that God has a purpose and we wait expectantly for His plans to unfold.
