Claremont Methodist Church offers an annual Confirmation Programme that affords young people from the age of 15 an opportunity to explore the meaning of their spirituality. The programme kicks off in the first term and runs through to early October. At the end of the programme, each candidate decides for themselves whether they are ready to go ahead and confirm their faith in Christ. This takes place during a special service where each candidate gives their Christian testimony and, by means of answering three questions, makes a public (1) Confession of sin, (2) Declaration of faith and (3) Commitment to serving Christ. They thereby confirm their membership in the family of God, as represented by the local Church.
The Confirmation Programme is designed around the needs and interests of the candidates and is usually a great deal of fun. The Confirmation Service is a deeply meaningful event, not only in the life of these young people and their families, but also in the life of the Church. It is a celebration of God – the God who transforms people’s lives (2 Cor 5:17).
