Through short, relevant Biblically-based presentations just prior to taking up the offering during our worship services, the oRanGe ministry team aims to highlight a broad range of topics related to Receiving and Giving.
Our purpose is to
bring biblical truths on Receiving and Giving before the congregation, and provide a context in which appropriate receiving and giving is not only acknowledged as important, but also can and does take place
Team members are asked to do a presentation (at both morning and evening services) about once every 2 or 3 months, depending on how many there are in the team. The ministry is now in its 6th year. Booklets containing past inputs are available from the coordinator.
Examples of topics presented are:
• An attitude of gratitude
• ForGIVING and ThanksGIVING
• Jehovah Jireh – receiving
• Contentment, covetousness and giving
• What have a rugby ball and a collection bag got in common?
• Drumming for Jesus
• Lord of the Dance
• Generous hearts for South Africa’s prosperity
Many people have probably not experienced the joys of generous, sacrificial, cheerful giving, so we encourage this mindset, and consequent action, in a context where it is conducive to do so - each of us who is grateful bringing worthy gifts, together with our hearts, to the King of Kings.
We believe that
God’s grace is released and flows as people give significant, sacrificial giving (as opposed to trifling/inadequate, ad hoc donations) is most likely to occur where there is a relationship
excellence is expected from God’s people
Thus we strive to meet God’s purposes in leading the people of CMC into a fruitful context from which to
• receive from God and each other, and
• respond by giving generously.
But equally important in our ongoing thrust is Paul’s teaching in 2 Corinthians 9:7,8 (NLT):
“Remember this – a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
We urge the congregation to “come to the party” so that our leaders can plan with confidence, and CMC will be a force to be reckoned with in bringing
• Jesus to our community, and
• our community to Jesus!
